File Types

GIF

When exporting or saving a file as a GIF, the application compresses the file. If the file has transparent layers, it will save them. The file can also be an animation, and it can be uploaded. GIF's are typically found around the internet as short repeated clips.

JPEG

You normally want to export a file as a JPEG when you want just the image. A Jpeg compresses a file, to reduce its file size. It, however, doesn't retain any transparent layers, keeps any animation or remember any layers form the original file. You can, however, upload this file. It retains a decent amount of quality and allows you to have a lot of different colours.

PNG

PNG files compress a file, it also retains any transparent layers. You can also upload a PNG file. When it gets compressed, it only gets compressed slightly. So when uploading, it keeps most of the image quality.

PSD

PSD files are more of an editable file type rather than an image file type. A PSD file saves information from the file like multiple different layers, transparency and any animation used. The file, however, can't be uploaded. And when it's saved, it's saved as the editable file, so no compression is needed.

TIF

TIF files are mostly used if you want to print an image out, like a poster or a big print. TIF files are big and don't really get compressed. TIF files can be uploaded, but it will take a while and can be too big to be uploaded. TIF files also don't remember transparency or layers
