Improving My Work Using the 6 Principles of Design

American Gods Book Cover

I used the spacing principle from the 6 principles of design to try and make my book cover better. The original image seemed cluttered and full of images that didn't need to be there. It looked quite messy and didn't have much flair. The main part however that stood out and what I liked was the background. It's a big open area with a few characters in it. I thought adding more space, and de-cluttering the image would help. There are still characters like the original version, just more spacing to keep it less full and messy.

Website Template

I was quite happy with my original website design. However the more I looked at it, I slowly realised certain parts of the website weren't in line and made the image look slightly wonky. So I used the Alignment principle to try and sort it out. I went back in and looked at the distance data, and made sure everything was numerically aligned. I also added in two other white boxes to highlight important areas of the page.

Music Video Poster Template

In my original music poster, I had a lot of lines. The main design is the yellow area with lines through an area in the middle of the poster. I originally went with a circle in the middle mad up by lines, as I thought they crossed over and gave the poster a place to look at and a main focal point. I thought I'd use one of the six principle design, being Repetition. The original poster had the use of repetition, however, it was quite a simple use. in my updated version, I used an image in the middle made up of multiple images. All the separate parts are black birds making the white area stand out and look like a bird itself.
