a) Purpose
The purpose of my first idea is to connect people and allow people to talk online while also having a nice and artistic experience. It's simple but it allows people to talk online, either to one person or in a group chat. However, I also wanted it to look nice, as just talking to people can get boring or too simple. I want people to express themselves using a tree. The more people you talk to, and the more you use the site, the bigger your tree gets. You can design it and change it. People will be able to see your tree and you can see others.
b) Content
The website will have multiple different uses and purposes. The main use will be to message friends and other people and see posts they've made, these being pictures or text. Another main focal point, however, will be the fact that each user has their own customizable tree. The user can choose what tree it is and can change the colour and design. It also changes with the seasons. This is for aesthetic. The website does what most other social sites do but it looks nice and appealing to the user. Being able to communicate with friends and other people around the world while using a bright coloured/personal theme can make the user feel happier using the app.
c) Target User/Audience
Because of it's spread of customization, and uses, the app's really for almost anyone. Anyone who wants a way to communicate with others online can use the app. The target audience would be young adults to middle-aged people. For most people who want to be able to talk to people online. A lot of younger adults these days use apps to talk to their friends. Around 99% of UK citizens aged between 16 - 24 use social network sites weekly. Twitter has around 20.9 million users, Instagram has around 16.5 million users. Almost anyone with a phone nowadays will use a form of social media site or app according to a survey by Business Insider. The survey quizzed 1512 UK adults aged 16 or older, and defined social media usage as time spent on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, or other "social media sites." However, older people, as well as wanting to talk to people online, might also like the part where they can design their own tree and add pictures. Pictures like their family, or life stories. For membership, the longer you use the app, the bigger your tree can get, and the more trees you can make. For example, you could make a separate tree as a family tree, or have a tree devoted to your pictures.
D) Production Plan

E) Launch Date
The launch date for the site/app will be the 23rd of December 2018.
F) Possible Revenue Streams
On the app, there would be small adverts dotted around. The advertisers would pay the website to host them. There would also be buyable customizable products for the user's tree. And hopefully, after launch day, we'd get some integration with other products such as films and tv products that would incorporate media references. Other companies can advertise their products and their well-known shows by having small cameos as decorations and/or stickers. There would a premium where you can connect your Spotify account to the app or website and play music. You also make a group and play your music to other people in the call. As a premium, you'll also receive a bunch of customizable stickers and decorations, and a range of more options to change the shape, size, and style of your tree, this will also include changing the art style and themes of the tree and page.

J) Privacy/Security Measures
To have a good sense of security, the site will advise the user to use a strong password, for example, the password must include a number or a certain amount of letters. They will also need an email as a form of recovery if they forget their password.
K) Competition
The main competition for my site will be other social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. These websites have similar uses and apps. For example, you can use all four to message people and browse media. I designed my app to stand out, so it has the basic needs the user wants but with more design and personalisation.
Users Journey
My pen portrait character Tony sits at home alone, sitting at his computer trying to do work. He starts to get bored and wants to reach out to his small friend group back from college. His friends have told him about a new app some people are using called branch. He searches online for the app. He finds the branch website and clicks on it. Immediately the website grabs his attention with its design. He connects his account with his Facebook account and gets straight onto the site. He's asked about making a tree and decides to do it later. He searches for his friends and finds them quite easily. He then adds them as friends and starts to look through their posts. He chuckles to himself remembering some of the times they've spent together. His friends then accept his friend request and message him. They start talking for a while and his friend asks if he made a tree on the site. His friend excitedly tells him about how he can customize the tree, and change the size, and that it changes in seasons. Tony seems not that interested. But as he starts to use the app more and talk to his friends, he starts to find things he likes on the site. Either by people posting them or through friends. He looks at his friend's tree and see's they've decorated it with the lord of the ring hangers and can see that they've liked posts about food and games. Tony starts to look more into and eventually decides to make a tree. The tree starts to grow and he adds hangers and changes the colours to suit him.
